Research and Development in Creative Arts
The Department of Culture and Creative Arts (CCA) is a dynamic and research-oriented department that focuses on culture and the creative arts. Aligned with the University's mission of leading educational innovation, CCA is dedicated to promoting and supporting the strategic development of teaching and learning, pre-service training, professional development, and creative arts education. The department's academic and public profile is continually expanding, reflected in its internationalisation efforts, successful acquisition of external competitive research grants, traditional and non-traditional research outputs, and knowledge transfer activities.
Research Area
CCA prioritises producing both traditional and non-traditional research outputs and cross-disciplinary research within a broader context of nurturing a symbiotic relationship between practice-based outputs and theoretical research. Our research outputs create a greater critical mass, enabling us to have a greater impact in terms of "Reach" by maximising our international presence within academic and non-academic cultural sectors and "Significance" by engaging in thematic drivers related to the rapidly changing field of international creative practice, creative arts educational practice, and cultural consumption.
CCA plays a significant role in shaping the future of school-taught arts education, particularly in recognition of the necessity for greater cultural diversity. There is an increasing need to encourage people to embrace local culture and heritage alongside the development of new levels of interest and enthusiasm among potential audiences, including children. CCA addresses this need directly by leveraging its research and knowledge transfer strengths in Cantonese opera, contemporary music and choral music, innovative use of new technologies in music education, and application of digital technologies in Visual Arts education and practice.
